I play Pokémon go a fair bit and it has a featured called adventure sync. This is designed to record distances you travel when the app is closed (niantic makes money selling location data). However the way it records steps is easily gameable and you can buy devices to fool it. The current world champion has, according to his profile, walked 500009 km. he is 18.
I find it weirdly interesting how we part cyborg ourselves with random data grabbing apps and then get confused when AI turns up to eat us all

Just as an aside, my daughter is now really into weightlifting (she lectures me on the different types, I think hers is olympic weightlifting compared to power lifting, is that right?). Anyway, when she was in the states for a year she joined the local club and really found them a great bunch, she's done a few exhibitions and stuff. It seems like a really encouraging, welcoming community (she wasn't into the whole frat party culture on campus, so it really mattered to her). So, I'm looking forward to any weightlifting insights you have to share as I can look knowledgeable then :)
